The Valley

Elsecar Park is one of the UK’s favourites, a winner of many awards and a brilliant place for families to enjoy. Discover our reservoir too. Spot birds and watch wildlife as you explore.

Elsecar Park was created back in the 1930s, as the village flourished thanks to its nickname ‘Elsecar by the Sea’. Its iconic bandstand has hosted regular brass bands ever since, their music accompanying visitors and locals as they’ve strolled, sat and passed the time.

The park’s gardeners and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the park is truly one to be proud of. Enjoy pitch and putt, tea and cake at the Tee Cup Café, or spectacular views of the village from the crazy golf course. The children’s play area and sand pits are always popular and buzzing with laughter. Get active with our outdoor gym or take a run around the reservoir close by.

The reservoir was built over 220 years ago, to provide water needed for our newly cut canal. It was the reservoir that first brought visitors here in their thousands, as they paddled on specially built beaches and boated across its waves. Now visitors can enjoy spotting birds and watching wildlife from its hides and benches. There is a path all around the reservoir, but is currently inaccessible in parts to wheelchair users.
