Elsecar ‘serves’ up a weekend of celebrity chefs and foodie fun

Michelin award-winning chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli, will be making a welcome return to Elsecar’s annual Flavours Food Festival on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 October. The well-loved television personality will be cooking up a storm in the historic South Yorkshire Village as he meets with fans and performs lively cookery demonstrations throughout the action packed weekend. The 5 AA Rosette chef will also showcase a selection of his recipes which people can recreate at home.

The internationally famous Caravan Gallery shines a spotlight on Wombwell

Barnsley Museums have invited artists and photographers Jan Williams and Chris Teasdale to bring their unique mobile gallery to the streets of Wombwell. Their bright yellow caravan - a lovingly reincarnated1969 Bluebird Europe - will make its Wombwell debut on the High Street next to Gabby’s Florists on Saturday 14 September during the Heritage Open Day weekend. Further market day appearances will follow over the course of a month.

Heat wave reveals traces of forgotten World War 2 houses

Last summer’s heat wave revealed traces of World War 2 houses in the village of Elsecar and this has now inspired an exciting new research project. Based on the discoveries from last year’s unusually hot weather, a team of researchers are now investigating a row of forgotten post-war prefab houses on Millhouses Street, Hoyland - now the Milton Forge playing field, and would love to hear from the people who lived in them.

Back to the Futurist cinema launches in Elsecar

A pop-up community cinema is being launched in Elsecar this month, 33 years after the Futurist cinema closed its doors in the village. A special screening of the cult classic film Back to the Future will launch the community cinema at The Ironworks at Elsecar Heritage Centre on Thursday 15 November from 7pm – 10.30pm. The launch event is free and open to everyone

Flavours Food Festival returns with a bang

Elsecar Heritage Centre is opening its doors to Flavours annual food festival this weekend, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October. Packed full of foodie fun, live music, family entertainment and a spectacular firework display, the weekend is a two-day celebration for all the senses.
