Elsecar's Festival of Archaeology

Elsecar is set to get digging again this July with an exciting festival of archaeology centred around the Elsecar Newcomen Engine, the oldest steam engine in the World in its original location. Over two weeks in July, archaeologists from ArcHeritage will work with local schools and community volunteers to uncover the engine's lost boiler house. There will also be lots of creative work with local artists, taking inspiration from the dig and the Earl's Great Engine itself. Come along and get creative at one of the artist workshops, or take part in a special tour to see what the archaeologists have uncovered.

Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm

If you would like to get involved with the dig please book a place via Eventbrite. Places are limited so book soon!

There are lots of events and activities happening as part of the festival, including workshops free drop-in events with local artists and a model making competition!
