1795 Newcomen Engine demonstrations at the New Colliery

Come along and see our Newcomen Engine in action. It’s the oldest steam engine in the world that’s still in its original location – the Elsecar New Colliery, sunk in 1795.

Learn about the invention that changed the world and the role it played in the spectacular development of Elsecar as an industrial community. Explore inside the Engine House and peer down its original mineshaft.

Demonstrations start at the New Colliery 12pm | 1pm | 2pm

Free, donations welcome.

Dates also available on 1, 15 and 29 July, 12, 26 August and 9, 23 September.
